I won't go into why I disappeared like that - suffice it to say that my career went quiet, and I struggled a bit, and I started asking myself existential questions like, why would I write a blog when I can't write anything else? (Which is balanced by the equally sensible question, why would I write a blog when I could be writing something else? which rather highlights my reluctance to blog in the first place... Anyway.) In a nutshell, I threw up my hands (metaphorically) after a couple of years and said to myself, right, I am GIVING UP, I am now going to write something ENTIRELY FOR MYSELF and FORGET ABOUT IT BEING COMMERCIAL. So I did.
In the way these things often work, it turned out to be (apparently) quite commercial.

ReplyDeleteI can see you do not have A large internet presence so I ended up here on your blog, which I will admit is my first time commenting on a blog :) however, I have read a lot of books in my life and I thought The binding was wonderful and soulful. Your transition from perspective and time masterful and also just your basic verb choices after dialogue were on point. Not sure if you respond to your own blog ill be notified but I saw u were from kent UK where i worked for a time so it seemed meaningful somehow. Just to be clear i dont share praise often but i think ur work has an impartial empathy that is truly reflective of the best of writers. Keep moving forward and good luck lady.
I really loved "The Binding". To me it was a truly unique novel with undertones of Dickens, Austin and Lawrence. It set my emotions on a rollercoaster loving the passion between Emmett and Lucian but sad for the betrayal of Alta and Lucian's fiancee. Women do not fare well in this book but somehow that doesn't seem to matter. I suppose l was so tied up with the two main characters and their driving passion for their lost memories and their love that l didn't delve into the lives of all the other brilliantly written characters. Please keep writing, you have an awe inspiring talent
